Technology and application of technology.

ebizQ presents ITGumbo: a spicy blog network where vendors and IT professionals share ideas about creating Business Agility.

Blogs in Web 3.0

Blogs create a massive consumer information database built by the individual opinion of web users. What is the utility of this information? It is used by online consumers, service providers, academicians, researchers and web surfers to gain knowledge, to share knowledge and to create a virtual social network that has no boundaries. There are many blog popularity web sites where blog links are listed to share information. How does this information sharing influence the web user?

Nielsen BuzzMetrics is a measurement company for Consumer-Generated Media. A subsidiary of a marketing intelligence measurement company The Nielsen Company, Nielsen BuzzMetrics has a blog trend and popularity measurement service BlogPulse. This service provides an interface for bloggers and readers to list their blog URIs and track the popularity of the blog, to learn about latest blogging trends and track the blog reference links. The Nielsen BuzzMetrics uses this blog database to find the marketing intelligence data on companies, brands, technologies and personals. The marketing intelligence information provided may not include a vast information database that has not been registered with BlogPulse.

Semantic Web Advantage

We have discussed comparison of 'thing' standard properties and values for the "open market" concept. This comparison included dollar cost of the 'thing'. The blogs in web 3.0 can still be used to express the opinions that will have power to influence the market trend irrespective of the web resource objective metadata based on the standards organization metadata definitions. A web 3.0 blog may look like this:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"
xmlns:bg="http://www.standardblog.org/definitions/">
<rdf:Description rdf:about="web resource URI">
<bg:URI>blog URI</bg:URI>
<bg:Author>blog Author</bg:Author>
<bg:Title >blog title</bg:Title>
<bg:Description>Blog Post</bg:Description>
</rdf:Description>
</rdf:RDF>

With this type of blog entries, it will not be necessary to explicitly list the blog URI with a measurement agency. The blog posts for the web resource URI will be automatically found. The text mining and data mining techniques may be used to provide many different services based on this semantic web blog post.

A popularity measurement property can be added to the web resource metadata. The popularity measurement metadata element of the web resource will provide the blog web resource popularity statistics. This metadata element will be included by companies like Nielsen BuzzMetrics to inform search engines that popularity data on a web resource is provided. This information can then be used in many ways to build different applications and information sources. One example is: the web resource URI may provide a link to a web page where measurements from more than one agency are displayed. This may be a web page that automatically finds and compiles all the web resources that refer to the popularity measurement metadata element. This is how popularity measurement web page may look like:

Web Resource Title
Web resource URI

Measurement Agency 1

Agency 1 description
Agency 1 URI

Measurement Agency 2

Agency 2 description
Agency 2 URI
